This course examines legal and ethical issues affecting information professionals, with an emphasis on problems involving competing values. Topics include:

Freedom for IP – Founder, Freedom for IP is a grass roots volunteer organization dedicated to exploring the interaction of Intellectual Property legislation with Human Rights. Freedom for IP is committed to providing resources, references and news about issues related to Intellectual Property and Human Rights. Freedom for IP is actively engaged in researching and discussing ideas on how to balance conflicting interest of IP and Human rights in an information age.

ATJWeb.org – Administrator, Access to Justice (ATJ) Web seeks to help guide the development of technology to help those in need. Through the ATJ Technology Principles we can use technology to give everyone fair access to the justice system a reality in Washington State and beyond.

Students For Free Culture (Alumni)- National Member since 2005 and Founder of Seattle University Law Students for Free Culture 2007. Free Culture strives to create a world where all can participate in culture without artificial limits. The free culture movement seeks to develop this culture by promoting four things:

JR- Jigsaw Resonance Seattle area NPO that runs a maker space on Capital Hill.  I blog for JR and am a keyed member. JR’s is at the cutting edge of DYI culture and provides a community space for all to explore their creative side.

Seattle University Human Rights Network – Former Board Member, The Seattle University Human Rights Network’s mission is to promote and protect human rights, broadly defined, through legal research and advocacy, coalition building, education and activism.

Copynight.org – Seattle Member, Copynight is a monthly social gathering of people interested in restoring balance in copyright law. We meet over drinks once a month in many cities to discuss new developments and build social ties between artists, engineers, filmmakers, academics, lawyers, and many others.
